Overlay network that consists of the following resources

Basic vs. Standard

• In basic deployment, hub networks are not meshed.

Hub

Contains a gateway for Express Route, site-to-site VPN, and/or point-to-site VPN. Hubs are deployed in an Azure region, all hubs in the same virtual WAN are connected in a mesh.

Onprem sites connect to the vWAN hub. The hub route table takes care of routing.

The recommended address range for a hub network is /23. The minimum size is a /24.

Hub networks cannot connect to virtual networks with an overlapping address range

Consider an address plan like this:

• 10.101.0.0/23: Hub network 1
• 10.101.2.0/23: Hub network 2
• 10.101.10.0/25: Application 1
• 10.101.10.128/25: Application 2

Network planning

Plan for non-overlapping address spaces across Azure regions and onprem locations.

• 2x /30 for Express Route peering
• /23 for hub network
